What you want to know.......

What is Acupuncture?

Over the past 5,000 years acupuncture has evolved into a complete medical system that can diagnose, treat, and prevent illness. It is safe, effective, and painless way to treat a wide variety of conditions.

An acupuncturist will place fine, sterile needles at specific acupoints in the body. This quick and easy intersection stimulates your body’s energy, called QI (pronounced “CHEE”) This unblocks any obstructions of the Qi strengthens your body, helps you heal from acute or chronic problems or imbalances both your mind and body.

What is Qi and how does it travel?

Qi is the energy that animates your body. It provides you with the ability to walk, talk, think, dream, and love. Qi also protects you from illness and keeps you strong and healthy.  Qi circulates through specific pathways called meridians.  Each meridian relates to an organ system in the body. Meridians are like rivers, where a river flows, it transports life giving Qi to energize and nourish your entire body, cells, tissues, and organs.

When Qi travels freely throughout your body, you can enjoy good physical, mental and emotional health. An obstruction of Qi in your body will act like a dam. This will back up the flow of the Qi and restricting in in other areas. Restricting the flow of the Qi will affect the proper nourishment your body requires to function correctly.

What causes Qi to get stuck?

Physical or emotional trauma, stress, lack of exercise, overexertion, poor diet, repetitive strain and excessive activity, seasonal change or weak constitution can lead to imbalances that disrupt the normal flow of Qi.

Under normal circumstances when a disruption occurs, you will easily bounce back, returning to a balanced good health flow. But when the disruption of Qi, is prolonged or excessive, or your body is weakened through illness, pain and disease, ailments will set in.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed varies from person to person. Some people experience immediate relief after the first treatment, others will take months or even years to see results. Chronic conditions usually take longer to resolve than acute conditions.

How safe is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is EXTREMELY SAFE! It is drug-free therapy. It yields NO side effects EXCEPT for feeling grounded, and relaxation. There is little danger from infection from acupuncture needles because they are sterile, single use, and disposed of after each treatment.

How do acupuncturists become acupuncturists?

Today, acupuncturists will receive three to four (3-4) years of extensive graduate training at a nationally certified school. All acupuncturists must pass a comprehensive national board exam from the national certification commission for acupuncture and oriental medicine., as well meet the state guidelines for practicing.
